Moraes Ranch Bucking Bulls goes far beyond a simple Breeding Program

Adriano Moraes, as a 3 Time World Champion Bull Rider, knows better then anybody else what takes to have a great "Breeding Program".

Adriano open mindedness has allowed him to put together the very best and subsequently build a breeding program with a focused philosophy that has earned Brazil as one of the top country breeders.

Our herd exemplifies a selective line breeding to incorporate athleticism to the existing bucking bulls genetics.

It is important to understand how some conformational traits should be of more concern than others, especially when addressing potential long-term usefulness.

Our breeding program is based upon two equally important goals.
• First, we selectively breed to preserve the "old-line" bucking bulls already proved.
• Second, we produce athletic bulls with movement and body, capable of competing in athletic events.

We are aware that the type of conformation consistently associated with the "old-line" bulls and want to make them naturally suited for the disciplines of the Bull Riding events. Through our program we have focused on breeding these traits with new genetics, rather than attempting to breed existing line only.

We have worked toward these goals in our breeding program through two routes:
• Selecting bulls who have proven themselves in the disciplines of Bull Ridings, and
• Selecting cows with the conformation, movement and size to compliment and add to the qualities of the bulls we breed

Selecting
Selecting a bucking bull can be an exciting, and stressful endeavor. A stock contractor with a trained eye for conformation recognizes traits in a bull that can influence how the bull may be able to perform. The phrase "form to function" commonly demonstrates how a bull's basic conformation can dictate its athletic ability.

Training
Many factors need to be considered when determining how to best condition your bull to meet your goals for the upcoming season. While physical conditioning plays a major role in how your bull will perform, other factors including how to avoid injuries and how to have your bull mentally prepared must also be considered.

Feeding
Most breeders have a great deal of concern about the nutritional program that the cow requires to deliver a healthy calf. It is important to provide all of the nutrients necessary to provide for the maintenance of the cow and the development of the calf, but most of the changes in nutrient requirements occur in the last trimester of pregnancy. If good quality feeds are used, feeding the brood cow is not as overwhelming as you may think.

It is crucial for "bucking bulls shoppers" to narrow their scope and develop a plan of priorities for the type of Sire and Dam that will best suite their breeding program.
