Adriano Silva Moraes was born in April 20, 1970 in Quintana-SP, on his relatives' farm (in the year of 1995, the city of Quintana honored Adriano with the opening of a rodeo arena named after him)...
Adriano had a humble childhood. His father has always been a farm manager. His stories are very similar to Chico Bento's: he used to fish, hunt, go horseback riding. Whenever he went to school, his horse was tied up under a tree. He even was in need during childhood. Once all his family had a job picking tomatoes in plantation fields, his lunch and dinner had been rice and tomato for many months. Even leading such a difficult life, his parents Aparecido and Elizabeth managed to raise their children keeping them together with a dignified behavior. Adriano has 3 brothers and 1 sister: Edno, André, Fernanda, and Allan.
Adriano has always been around horses and bulls, however, he only saw a rodeo for the first time when he was 16 years old. At 17, a friend invited him to go mounting in some rodeos; in the following year Adriano was already taking part in smaller professional rodeos. His first rodeo was in February 1988, in Domélia-SP, where he wasn't qualified for not knowing the rules, however, he did not fall from the bull. At his third rodeo he got second place and made nine times more money than he used to make working as a tractor driver on the farm his father managed.
At that time he was a sophomore in school, but as he realized it was impossible to conciliate rodeos, work, and school, he decided to quit working and studying and go on with rodeos.
At first, his parents did not accept the idea, but they gave him all their support afterwards. It took him two years to be considered one of the best, although it has been clear he was a gifted person since the beginning. In November 1989, he met his wife Flávia in a rodeo in Matão-SP, where she used to live. It was love at first sight; they got married three months later. Flávia used to go to nutrition school in Bauru, but she quit studying in October 1990 in order to travel with Adriano to rodeos.
It was in 1990 that Adriano got his great time in rodeo, since then he has discovered God has been making him the best bull rider in Brazil in order to make many people turn to the Lord through his testimony.
Adriano is known through his missionary spirit, kindness, moral concepts, and journey towards Sanctity. He is sure God has made him a champion for some reason, so he tries living for that.
He is a Catholic and today he is member of Comunidade Canção Nova. It can be said that religiosity is Adriano's strongest characteristic.
By 1990, Adriano did not fall from bulls anymore and he used to be a champion almost every weekend. He often participated in smaller rodeos and went through difficult moments even winning prizes every weekend. He used to go to rodeos by a 64 beetle which belonged to Flávia's grandfather, and he used to live in a bedroom and bathroom at the backyard of a lady's house.
In September, Adriano got his first big prize, a brand new Gol, from then on he started taking part in all great rodeos all over Brazil as a classified bull rider. In the year of 1991, when Adriano was already known for his perseverance and prizes, he was invited by a World Champion (Charles Sampson) to participate in rodeos in the United States.
He started the year of 1992 with the aim of going to the USA. In that same year, he won the Brazilian championship and he was ready to go. As he arrived in the "Cowboy's land", he was sure he could ride bulls anywhere in the world, getting champion titles in one of the most famous rodeos in the USA.
He came back to Brazil in March 1993 aiming at getting a sponsor to continue living in the USA.
Meanwhile, it was already established contact between Brazil and United States' rodeos, as in 1993 Brazil got his first international rodeo in Barretos through Adriano. In November 1993, Adriano got his second Brazilian championship and his first sponsor (Frigorífico Anglo) for 1994. Adriano Moraes's international career was started. In the year of 1994, Adriano won three of the best titles, among others:
- PBR World Champion
- Calgary Champion in Canada
- NFR Champion in Las Vegas – NV
- He was the third man in history to ride successfully all 10 bulls in the NFR, what got him into the Guinness book of records.
He was the cowboy that got the most prizes in 1994.
In 1995, he started the year winning, but he got a muscle sprain in April that stopped him to go through the year.
In 1996, he did it again and won the NFR, he also almost got the record of riding successfully all 10 bulls for the second time.
In the year of 1997, Adriano Moraes was the leader in PBR's World Championship when he had his leg broken by a bull in August at the time he was helping a friend in Barretos. Even not able to compete for the rest of the year, Adriano was PBR's vice-champion.
In 98 Adriano broke his leg again e lost the rest of the year. Last year, Adriano went just 50% of the World Championship in order to go on with the Project Rodeo with Christ in Brazil, and finish the year in forth place. Everybory was surprise with this result. This year, he is leading the Championship and promise to break all his records.
Adriano is considered to be one of the best bull riders in the world and the one with the best technique nowadays. It is said by people like Tuff Hedeman (four times World Champion) and Don Gay (eight times World Champion).
In addition to Brazilian and American championships, Adriano is a teacher at "Flávio Junqueira" rodeo school, in Olímpia - SP. He teaches the course "Bullriding techniques."
The year of 2001 was one of great victories for Adriano. Coming back to the United States, he won his second world title by PBR and he once again broke records in bullriding.
It was in Las Vegas, in the gardens of Caesar Palace Hotel, that Adriano was honored with a bronze statue of natural size for being the first PBR world champion.
As if it weren’t enough, Adriano won the greatest “World Challenge”, a contest involving the five best countries in rodeo: USA, Brazil, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. Brazil was once again in the spotlight of world rodeo through Adriano Moraes. It was in 2001 as well that Adriano has accomplished his greatest dream: “bringing the world championship to Brazil”.
With help from his partner Flavio Junqueira and great sponsors, four PBR events took place in the Brazilian territory.
In 2002, Adriano struggled against repetitive sprains and finished the year in ninth place.
As Adriano himself describes it, 2003 was the worst season in his professional life. Then, after outlining his priorities, Adriano started leading the 2004 championship from the very beginning; however, with a change in the points system, he saw his leadership of almost 2000 disappear during the World Final in Las Vegas. With a broken biceps, Adriano finished the year in second place, with a medical diagnosis of 6 months away from the arena. After going through surgery in Texas, our Champion is back to the world circuit and promises to overcome his physical limits with Faith and determination, strengths which Adriano has been proving to have, a lot.
Along with his family (his wife Flávia, and his sons Jeremias, Antônio, and Pedro), Adriano Moraes keeps his track to sanctity following a motto:"work, faith, and humbleness".
